The Oil Pan
Step 01
Press the pin and post of the Oil Pump Pipe into these matching holes of the Oil Pump.
As in previous packs, I have been adding color to some of my engine parts. Here, I used my Metallic Gold Sharpie and my 1mm Liquid Chrome Pen to add some contrast to these bits:
Since I had my gold Sharpie handy, I went ahead and painted all of the ‘bolt heads’ on my Cylinder Block as well:
After a short period to let the inks dry, I fit the parts together as expected:
Secure the Oil Pump Pipe into place from the other side with one (1) BP screw:
Step 02
Fit the Oil Pan Part to the rear of the Oil Pan, aligning the rounded tabs over the screw holes as shown:
While holding these parts firmly together, secure the Oil Pan Part to the Oil Pan with two (2) HM screws.
This is your friendly reminder to try using 3-in-One Oil on all screws going into metal:
Step 03
Fit the Oil Pump assembly into the front of the Oil Pan as shown, and secure this hole of the Oil Pump with one (1) LM screw:
There are two locating pins on the Oil Pump that fit into alignment holes on the Oil Pan. As I have been doing with most of my exposed screw heads, you may also notice that I painted the heads of these Oil Pump screws with my Metallic Silver Sharpie to help them blend in better:
Secure the opposite corner of the Oil Pump into place with one (1) SM screw:
Step 04
If not nearby, retrieve your Cylinder Block assembly from the previous pack. Fit this Oil Pan assembly to the bottom of the block, as shown.
There are four locating pins on the Oil Pan that fit into alignment holes on the Cylinder Block:
First, secure the front and rear of the Oil Pan to the Cylinder Block with four (4) HM screws:
I did not paint the heads of these two screws as they will be covered by the Oil Pan Bottom in the next step:
Then, secure the sides of the Oil Pan to the Cylinder Block with two (2) LM screws:
Step 05
Fit the Oil Pan Bottom to this location on the Oil Pan, as shown.
There are two locating pins on the Oil Pan Bottom that fit into alignment holes on the Oil Pan. Like with my engine block, I painted these ‘bolt heads’ (and the GM screws that secure it) with my Metallic Gold Sharpie as well:
Secure the Oil Pan Bottom into place with two (2) GM screws:
Thoughts
I love the detail of this oil pan and pump assembly, it looks great! For me, the colors I have been adding to the parts give it some realism.
