The Air Filters
Step 01
Fit the post of Left Air Filter E to the top of Left Air Filter A.
The Air Filter ‘bases’ (Left Air Filter A and Right Air Filter A) are marked ‘L1” and ‘R2’ so we can tell which one is which. There is an alignment hole on Left Air Filter A that will only match correctly to the the locating pin of Left Air Filter E, as shown:
Secure these parts together from the inside with one (1) GP screw:
Step 02
Fit the Left Air Filter Part B to this assembly, as shown.
The two Air Filter Part B parts look very similar. However, they both have two locating pins that will only line up the part to the screw holes if matched to the correct part. If the screw holes do not line up, use your other Air Filter Part B:
Secure the Left Air Filter Part B to Left Air Filter A with four (4) MP screws:
As before, I painted the screw heads for this connection with my Metallic Silver Sharpie to help them to blend in a bit:
Step 03
Fit the Left Air Filter D to this location on the Left Air Filter assembly, align the screw holes, and secure these parts together with two (2) MP screws:
The Left Air Filter D is marked ‘L1’ and the larger peg on it should face the Left Air Filter assembly, as shown:
Step 04
Repeating the previous steps with the right-side parts, fit the post of Right Air Filter E to the top of Right Air Filter A, as shown:
Secure these parts together from the inside with one (1) GP screw:
Step 05
Fit the Right Air Filter Part B to this assembly, as shown:
Secure the Right Air Filter Part B to Right Air Filter A with four (4) MP screws:
Step 06
Fit the Right Air Filter D to this location on the Right Air Filter assembly, align the screw holes, and secure these parts together with two (2) MP screws.
As before, the larger peg of the Right Air Filter D should face the Right Air Filter assembly, as shown:
Step 07
Retrieve your engine from the previous pack. Fit your Left Air Filter assembly to this location on the top rear left of the engine.
You may notice here that I painted the rear ‘bolt head’ on these Air Filters with my Metallic Gold Sharpie:
Secure the Left Air Filter into place with two (2) MM screws.
You may have to remove this assembly in order to complete Step 11. This is also your friendly reminder to try using 3-in-One Oil on all screws going into metal:
Step 08
Likewise, fit your Right Air Filter assembly to this location on the top rear right of the engine:
Secure the Right Air Filter into place with two (2) MM screws:
Step 09
Gently press the Right Air Filter C down flush into the top opening of the Right Air Filter B, as shown:
Step 10
In the same way, gently press the Left Air Filter C down flush into the top opening of the Left Air Filter B, as shown:
Step 11
Push the yellow Air Filter Hose Cap (arrow below) onto the peg at the center of the Air Filter Hose. Then, fit the ends of the Air Filter Hose onto the two D-shaped posts of the Left Air Filter B and Right Air Filter B.
On my model, I could not fit these easily and I did not feel comfortable forcing the two Air Filters far enough apart to slide this Air Filter Hose into place between them. Instead, I first removed my Left Air Filter assembly and slid the hose onto the Right Air Filter assembly (circled below).
To give some authenticity to the hose clamps on this Air Filter Hose, I painted them with my 1mm Liquid Chrome pen.
Then, I aligned the other end of the Air Filter Hose to my Left Air Filter assembly and secured it back onto the engine:
Thoughts
Oddly enough, I am pretty sure that these Air Filters are actually the secondary air injection pumps on the real engine. Still, they look great!
