Build

The Throttle Body

Step 01

Fit the edge pins of a Throttle into the matching recesses of the Left Throttle Body, as shown:

Step 02

Retrieve your engine assembly from the previous pack. While holding the Left Throttle Body parts together, fit this assembly to the Right Connection (the incorrectly named part from Engine Pack 21), aligning the screw holes.

Unfortunately, on my model, this Left Throttle Body would not fit flush against the Connection plate as the Engine Cover was in the way:

To try and adjust the Connection plates, I had to remove the Engine Cover, both Intake Manifolds B and Intake Manifold C, and both Connections. I then continued with building out the Throttle Body in the next steps:

Step 03

Fit the Left Intake Tube to the Left Throttle Body, align the screw holes, and secure it into place with four (4) QP screws.

As I had to adjust my Connection parts anyway, I decided to build the entire Left Throttle Body and attach it to the Connection first:

You may notice that I touched the two ‘screws’ of the Throttle plate with my 1mm Liquid Chrome pen to create some interesting contrast:

Step 04

Fit the Left Throttle Position Sensor to the rear of the Left Throttle Body, as shown:

Secure the Left Throttle Position Sensor into place with two (2) MP screws:

This is my completed Left Throttle Body assembly with the Connection attached:

At this point, I loosely fitted this entire assembly to my Intake Manifold Collector on the left side:

After test fitting the Engine Cover, I realized this Connection cannot be fully screwed down. I ended up holding it in place with only one loosened screw:

This Connection now leans out far enough to clear the Engine Cover and the single screw keeps it from falling out:

Step 05

In the same way, fit the edge pins of a Throttle into the matching recesses of the Right Throttle Body, as shown:

Step 06

While holding the Right Throttle Body parts together, fit this assembly to the Left Connection (the other incorrectly named part from Engine Pack 21), aligning the screw holes.

As I had to adjust my Connection parts anyway, I decided to build the entire Right Throttle Body and attach it to the Connection first:

Step 07

Fit the Right Intake Tube to the Right Throttle Body, align the screw holes, and secure it into place with four (4) QP screws:

Step 04

Fit the Right Throttle Position Sensor to the rear of the Right Throttle Body, as shown:

Secure the Right Throttle Position Sensor into place with two (2) MP screws:

This is my completed Right Throttle Body assembly with the Connection attached:

As before, I had to secure this entire assembly to my Intake Manifold Collector on the right side with one loosened screw:

And as before, this allowed the Connection to angle out a bit and clear the Engine Cover:

Finally, with these Connections and Throttle Bodies mounted satisfactorily, I reassembled the Intake Manifold and Engine Cover. Our Nissan VR38DETT GT-R engine is now complete!

Thoughts

I have no idea why the Connection parts were out of alignment, but I think it may have to do with the height of the screw posts they mount to. Still, we were able to find a decent workaround and everything looks correct. While this pack marks the completion of the engine assembly, we will begin building up the display Pedestal in the next pack. Keep your engine assembly safely stored until we mount it in Engine Pack 31.
